The
Expedition Begins... |
At
last, it's holiday time! Pilots and gliders are starting to make
their way to the French Alps for a few weeks of rock-polishing. Andy had
gone on first with his ASW27 (700) but on arrival at Sisteron reported
local storms. This is not unusual for this time of year and the best
view of the show is definitely from the comfort of a well-stocked
bar. |

Bang!
She's off...
June 1st, 3:50pm:
Ariane sets off from Gransden Lodge.
June 1st, 3:55pm: First puncture, just beyond the gun
club. How we laughed...! A quick visit to a Royston tyre depot for a
replacement, and on to our village for a 4:30am start the following
morning.
Ariane reported that P&O's free trailer offer had
won universal approval - the ferry was loaded mainly with cars and
caravans. |

France en grève (comme d'habitude...?).
Bridgie, with unerring sense of timing, changed his ferry crossing from Friday 6th to
Tuesday 3rd, the date all of France went on strike. He was bumped from
P&O onto the Channel Tunnel, so gaining an extra hour and, by managing to avoid further
actions by go-slow truckers and convoys of striking fire-appliances,
reached Sisteron airfield at 21:30pm local, following a 4:30am start in the UK.
