Ariane Goes Pair-flying
We were advised at briefing that the day would not start until the temperature reach around 31
Celsius. Neither John nor I were really in a hurry to get going and after saying goodbye to Andy
(going home today) we finally got ready.
The start was relatively easy with a climb north of Hongrie to 1800 metres
and then I made my way to Malaup and met up with John. We then decided to fly together to the north
past Colombis, on to Les Parias, then the vallee of Orcierres Merlette and finally
we went to play into the different ridges in the Valgaudemar.

I had never been there before and felt slightly intimidated as cloud base was just a couple of hundred feet above the ridges.
Anyway, after an hour or so it all became a little too much for me (I am only a girlie...) and left John, to fly back south
past Gap and then onto the edge of the Vercors and decided to try and
exploit the weak wave around Sisteron. I stayed a good hour at around 10.000 feet until the call of an aperitif made me open my
airbrakes.
Another good flight and a new part of the Alps discovered. Click here for a map
and the logger file.

We all attended Prize Giving for the Coupe Duo Discus. The Vinon Duo won the week by a small margin ahead of our Sisteron Duo. I was duly presented with a commemorative medal as one of the pilots who contributed to the result. The day finished with
Anne and Tony (visitors from Talgarth), Terry, Margaret (who did not fly today but
instead went shopping...), John and I having dinner at the the
club's restaurant Le Janus with a few glasses of wine to celebrate the end of our first successful week.
Tomorrow the rest of the group arrives and we will try to get them to
contribute to our daily report.
If anyone in cyberspace is thinking about flying in the southern French
Alps, please contact Ariane
who will help you to make your thoughts a reality....
