During May, Sisteron hosted the Sailplane Grand
Prix Final. Before the competition started there had been some misgivings
as to whether the Sisteron team would cope with the demands of such a high
profile event but, from where I was sitting, everything appeared to go very
well. I have to say that just watching the live broadcast via the
internet was a fascinating exercise. The big boys flew impressively fast (and
low), attempting the sorts of things I would never consider, occasionally in
severe weather. It was very, very useful to have the opportunity to study their
tactics; I particularly enjoyed the final day, when the competition was won by
the pilot who didn't follow the pack.
