A slightly slower start to the day for me,
but with the help of Lasham's 775 and a bit of patience at the Gourras, the day started
to pop with a good climb near Jouere. Not much cumulus about, but those
that were visible appeared to have a pleasingly high base, especially the
ones near Seyne, which went to 10,000ft.
With that much height in hand I
decided to bypass Dormillouse and Morgon by heading for the Grand Seolene
and then directly to Guillaume.

|
Then followed a fairly easy passage to the
Queyras and northwards to Chaberton. I got as far as the col d'Etache
where I decided that this was as far as I wanted to go today, and retraced
my flight back to Chaberton.

Cloudy Italy

Viso looked tempting once again, and I made
some effort to get a little further east but, when I was half-way there,
areas of sink put me off and I wimped out. Great views, though, over Italy
of islands of mountains rising from a sea of low cloud. |

The run across the
middle of the Ecrins went well, as I was able to gain enough height just
by bouncing the ridge-tops to pass through the pas de Cavale and into the
Gap valley. The western Ecrins looked good for a short foray northwards as
far as the Valgaudemar, and then it was home time, via the lac de
Serre-Poncon. |
