Guillaume

Trois Eveches from 10,000ft
|
|
Conditions were good today in the Durance
valley. An easy getaway from Hongrie took us to Authon, Auribeau, Blayeul
and onto the parcours, in the company of many of the Regionals competition
gliders. Things got more difficult at the Morgon, where we spent several
minutes in the company of hill-walkers who, to my intense disappointment,
were doing rather better than we were. Having reached 7800ft, we decided
that that would do for the glide to Guillaume, which we reached just under
7000ft. |

It was working in
the Guillaume style - that is, as long as you fly really close to
the rocks you may go up. A better climb at the tete de Lucy took us
along the spine of the Ecrins towards the Terres Blanches, but we didn't
have quite enough height to get over the col, so we flew over Furan
towards Prachaval which, of course, was working in the Prachaval style -
that is, you can be 1km off the ridge and always find strong and
steady lift. |
|
Didn't do us much good though; the air was
much more stable over the Queyras and Ecrins and after making a couple of
attempts to forge northwards, we decided enough was enough, so we topped up on Prachaval for the third time
and headed back towards the Gap
valley via Furan, Clotinaille and Guillaume. We ran the parcours up
to the Trois Eveches and then joined Martin in 693 for a photo-session,
before landing back at Sisteron. |
