The mistral was
still with us today, so most of us took an early launch onto the Gache,
this time without scaring the tuggies too much, as the wind had moderated
a little. The first task was to get away from the Gache to avoid the
crowds - it had got very busy on the ridges yesterday - and we flew along
the Lure to the summit station to look for wave in the Jabron valley.
Finding little success, we decided to enjoy the sparkling clear visibility
by flying to the lac Ste Croix, where its astonishingly deep turquoise
colours never fail to impress. |

Hearing our boys
having success on the parcours, we then flew to the montagne de Coupe,
Couard, Cheval Blanc (where cloudbase at about 8000ft was interestingly
lower than elsewhere) and further north towards the parcours (where
cloudbase was 1000ft higher). On our return to the Cheval Blanc we found
ourselves above cloudbase, connecting with some weak westerly wave at
about 8800ft. We stayed there until topping out at 11,500ft and then
pushed west to find marginally better wave at Blayeul, which this time
went to 12,500ft. |

Just as we were thinking of landing we
found some excitement on the club frequency, as several pilots chose to
ignore standard landing procedures. We decided to avoid joining in by
flying direct to the gorge de Meouge, where we connected with 4 knots of
wave at 7000ft. We climbed to FL115 by which time the drama was over, and
we touched down soon afterwards after another fabulous seven hours in the
air. |
