Working hard at Gap
Duo 220 makes it back
|
Today
was very different to yesterday - soaring conditions remained blue, apart
from distant cumulus which remained frustratingly out of reach. The
moderate north-westerly wind was not strong enough for mistral, yet it
interfered sufficiently with the thermals to make it a very difficult day.
We stayed local to Sisteron for pretty much the whole flight, between
Authon and Aujour, except for 20 minutes just north west of Gap airfield
when some low-level scratching was required; I was keen not to have to
land there again this year and was happy to get back to the tete de
Boursier after applying some 'technique'. Some of the braver pilots went
as far as Morgon, and one local reached the St Crepin valley, but all in
all the day was rather a disappointment (but better than current
conditions in the UK though, if the met. charts are anything to go by).
And to top it all, we had to attend yet another aperitifs party - life can
be so hard down here in the Alps, sometimes. |
