All Out
Soaring Morgon
|
It has
been a frustrating few days; first the weather refused to comply with our
expectations and then, when it did, we found ourselves with our heads in
the Duo panel trying to resolve an electrical problem with our computer.
Luckily (for us anyway), the day was subsequently classified as
"rubbish", so we didn't lose out too much.
However, for one of our party the layoff has been
considerably longer, so it was with great pleasure that we invited John
Glossop on board for his first glider flight in over a year. Clouds popped
in an inviting manner and we got away from Authon without too much
trouble, despite my having to re-learn how to climb using just a Winter
vario. A juicy cumulus over Oratoire saw a cloudbase of 9300ft making the
transition to Dormillouse and Morgon easy. |
At
Guillaume we had to wait for a few minutes for an obliging thermal to come
along, after which we were able to reach Furan, climbing to 11000ft. At
the tete d'Amont we decided to go for a scenic trip into the Glacier Blanc
which was spectacular, as always, and we followed that with a climb to
13000ft and an easy glide home over the highest bits of the Ecrins. |
