Today's aviation exercise
|
This long and uncharacteristic spell of poor
weather continues. Jerome's forecast confirmed our fears
- lots of heavy stratus, few if any cumulus, no wind, and a side order of
showers "which may contain sand". As I would rather
use a more professional approach to reprofiling my wings I decided instead to go for a walk,
selecting Les Monges as my task for the day.
I can report that I just failed to reach
Silver Height, achieving a 900m gain at a less than respectable average climb rate of 0.2 knots.
However, the result for me was an ascent time from the remote Authon start
of 2 hours 10 minutes to the summit, 5 minutes faster than my previous best
time, which I concluded was not bad for an overweight git of 51 years. I
managed this by not stopping for rests - some parallels perhaps with
cross-country gliding!
Roll on tomorrow...
