Approaching Morgon
|
Another iffy forecast - even Jerome wasn't really confident about the day's weather. Most of us flew, however,
but found only mediocre conditions by Alpine standards. The cloudbase was low over the parcours, and misty with it, making flying close to cloudbase a risky strategy. The weather further into the st Crepin valley looked worse, with much spreadout.

Ariane and I spent a useful hour or two on a pair-flying exercise up to Morgon and along la Blanche. Then we crossed the Gap valley onto the pic de Bure where we found northerly wave right at the tip of the
eastern butress. Although the wave rarely gave more than 2 knots, it was enough to take us up to 19000ft, adding a surprising bonus to what might otherwise have been a disappointing day's
flying.
