The Duo Competition about to launch

We found some excellent conditions today, despite
the forecast for showers and Cb to the east and north. I launched onto
Gache and quickly found a strong climb that  got me to Trainon,
Authon, Auribeau, Blayeul and away to the parcours. I don't know how anyone could have done it more quickly, but Andy in 700,
      launching after me, managed it!

From la Blanche I crossed the Ubaye valley to the east of Morgon. Showers
over Clotinaille and Furan suggested caution, but the col de Vars was still
clear so I headed in that direction. Now getting 11,500ft and 5kt climbs,
I carried on past the lac des 9 couleurs and on to Viso which was totally obscured by clouds.

    | There was no high build-up
of cloud over the Ecrins so I headed north towards Briancon, connecting with wave over Montgenevre to 14,000ft.
I headed back south and from Pelvoux took a long, long glide through the pas de la
cavale, Orcierres Merlette, Guillaume, Morgon, the parcours all the way to lac
Ste Croix, where I topped up to cloudbase. Further south I followed a convergence zone for another 40km south.   |

    | I
turned back north as the cloud ran out and retraced my steps, not stopping for another climb until north of Cheval
Blanc. After reaching Morgon I decided to join the wave hunters at Chabre,
topping off the flight with a climb to 11,500ft in gentle wave. SeeYou
counted up 538km flown - a stunning day out. |

Ariane was once again in the competition
Duo, flying a racing task to the Lac de Castillon, Orcierre Merlette, Mallemoisson
and Serre airfield. having enjoyed some interesting views of Dormillouse
from the level of the ski-area, they made it back home to finish fifth
      once again.
