Wave
Again
A moderate westerly and blue skies
greeted us as we prepared our gliders this morning. The forecast suggested
that there might be wave in the higher mountains so we planned our trips
to the north once again. The Gache provided a thermic gateway to Jouére,
la Blanche, Guillaume and the Ecrins. I turned le col de la Vallée (near
Bardonecchia) at 13,000ft, still using thermals. |
Back
at the Ecrins I found some weak wave between the tête d'Amont and Pelvoux.
The climb rate, though steady, was rarely more than 1 knot and I was
unable to climb higher than 14,000ft. The views over the Ecrins, however,
were excellent. I carried on across the Valgaudemar towards Devoluy, north
of the pic de Bure, dropping out of the wave. |

I
managed to thread myself through the clouds until I was in the lee of the
tête de l'Obiou, where I reconnected with the wave once more, taking it
once again to 14,000ft. The route towards the Vercors over the clouds
looked too tempting to miss so I carried on westwards towards the
Glandasse, but was unable to contact any more wave that day. |
