Groundhog Day
|
|
Alex in his office
|
Yesterday's flying was called off when thick
top cover spread over the valley from the west. We watched the ensuing storm
with interest from Mike and Angie's house in the Jabron. As
Alan and I prepared the Duo this morning we noticed a distinct lack of
activity from the locals; no French, no German, just one Dutch - only we
Brits were ready to do battle. "That..." said Alex the tug,
"...is because Sisteron gets 300 good days per year, while the UK gets
only 50".

Gache, again...
|
|
This turned out not to be one of those good days.
The Gache worked well in the moderate north-westerly, but only to around
5000ft. All explorations to locate the wave in the the usual places were met
with failure and the thermals took an age to get going but the better
weather remained just out of reach. The Gache worked well all day, so we
always had that to fall back on, but the sense of déja vu was getting a bit
wearing. At least one of the others made it to the Lure, and we did watch a
squadron of five or six gliders, possibly from Serres, float past towards
Jouere and back again to the Jabron but for us it remained a frustrating
day. I could suggest that I give Alan
his money back but, as his taxi-driver for the day, that would be against
union policy.
