I've
said it many times, but a visit to the glacier Blanc is always worth the journey, with strong climbs
off the lower ridges, the highest cloudbases in the area and all the scenery
to match. The pics d'Agneaux form part of the eastern ridge of the glacier
valley and usually wear hats of smooth, blue-white snow disturbed only by
occasional wrinkles and delicate traces left by adventurous skiers. It does
get busy here with many gliders and the occasional hang-glider competing for
the best view. I once saw a paraglider over the Barre des Ecrins at 13,000ft
and immediately felt that little bit warmer in my enclosed cockpit. Sisteron
is only about 90km from here, which is an easy final glide from these
altitudes.
