Southerly Wave

A steadily increasing south westerly wind eased the selection
of a suitable tow-direction, and we settled on the tete de Boursier, towards
Gap. The ridge worked well and although the thermals were rather broken,
none possessed the violence of yesterday's, to Ariane's relief. We
didn't feel inclined to stray too far from the Sisteron cuvette and spent
the first half of the flight exploring the local ridges of Jouere, Auribeau
and Authon.

Back at Malaup we made a foray towards the crete de Selles
where a smooth, strong climb betrayed the presence of more interesting
conditions. At the top we moved forward into a couple of knots of wave which
we took to 10,000ft before pressing on to the Rosans valley, topping out at
just under FL115, the local ceiling here. Each bar was marked by a lower
level cumulus - the only lenticulars we saw were very high, towards the
Ecrins.

We also found wave further south at the Jabron valley,
climbing to FL115 again just as a large thick sheet of altostratus knocked
out the remaining thermals. We made another tour of the cuvette and decided
that somewhere in the Pegasus bar were cold beers with our names on them, so
we landed after a fairly interesting, though unsensational,
flight.
