Check Flights

Stop sniggering at the back
As Mr and Mrs Glossop had made the effort to join us at our Provencale home, the least we could do was to offer them each a flight. First up was John, eager for the opportunity to tell me where I was going wrong. A tow to Trainon got us started, though it took maybe an hour or so of hacking up and down Authon and Auribeau before we managed to connect with a real climb at les Monges. The next one at Oratoire went to 11,000ft, which was most agreeable.
We went for a quick dash to the parcours, Morgon and across the lake to Guillaume for another good climb at the tete de Lucy. Mr G elected to return via the parcours, where all went very well around the ridges as far as Cheval Blanc, where some disappointingly weak climbs forced a slight change of plan for the return to Sisteron. We plotted a route over la Bigue which offered just enough height for a low dash to Authon, where a couple of extra beats were enough to get us home.

I felt a bit guilty about cutting short Barbara's afternoon at the pool, but I soon rose above it and strapped her in the back for the second trip of the day. John, meanwhile, had gone off for a cold beer, and possibly a lie down.

The house thermal at Hongrie was now working very well and a good climb there got us onto pretty much the same route as we had followed earlier. Guillaume seemed to be working ok, but the tete de Lucy was not giving us much, which was a sign that it might be time to think of getting back.

Over Guillaume

We found an adequate climb at Guillaume and then, as Barbara remembered that there was a glass of red wine with her name on it, we flew straight back down the Gap valley, over Colombis and the western edges of Montserieux, which often produce lift, or at least reduced sink, as the afternoon progresses.

A quick exploration of the local ridges was followed by a landing, a quick change of clothes and an extremely pleasant meal at les Becs Fins, quite probably the best restaurant in Sisteron town.
