    | The
      Storms Arrive
After our day off from flying, today's weather was very
convective with a brisk north westerly wind. We all launched onto the
Gache in the hope of finding some wave, but as you can see from the
photograph below, there was a little too much energy in the air. The
parcours was already under a heavy storm and it was clearly advancing
steadily southwards. We tried the normal wave hotspots (Gache, Hongrie,
Malaup, pic de Bure, Charbre) but the best we could manage was 10,000ft in
what was probably wave-enhanced thermal. After a couple of hours it looked
like the airfield at Sisteron was about to get a thorough soaking and,
after some prompting from nearby flashes of lightning, we made hurried
(and exciting) landings and only just failed to derig the gliders before
      they got wet.     |

    | Rio,
      Rio, where art thou...?
This left us with plenty of time for the evening footie,
the England-France game in Euro 2004. For those of you who are interested
and would like to recall the moment, England played moderately well for 90
minutes and led by a single goal. Unfortunately, France scored twice in
injury time to win the game. I blame Alex Ferguson... |
